WHOLE PERSON DEVELOPMENT
The Gauteng Women’s Rugby Institute prides itself on providing a professional and holistically planned program for young athletic development. This is achieved through exposing our students to world-class on and off-field high-performance rugby training. Our highly experienced coaching staff are passionate about developing women to become the best rugby player they can be, all within a disciplined high-performance environment. The on-field training sessions will be held at the training grounds next to the hostel in Springs, Gauteng.
A high-performance strength and conditioning program are developed to compliment the way in which the Gauteng Women’s Rugby Institute’s coaches want the women to play rugby. The strength and conditioning program implemented is also positioned specifically and relevant to each position.
Further educational courses, Academic qualifications and skills transfer initiatives which are designed to achieve “Whole Person Development”, form part of the Gauteng Women’s Rugby Institute’s high-performance program. It is vital that we prepare our students for a life IN and AFTER rugby; we do this by providing a pathway towards employability. Thus, making sure that these females never again have to be dependent on a male to provide for them and will be able to escape the biggest reason for gender-based violence in South Africa.

Our range of separate courses and workshops in partnership with government, civil society and the private sector will be focus on skills needed for these students to stand on their own two feet. Our life-skills coach also plays an integral part in the development of these skills needed.
On our specialist sports campus, the students will benefit from the highest quality teaching, coaching and facilities as they become part of our sporting success story.
Women’s rugby is growing rapidly around the world, and South Africa is gaining momentum. The reality is that the areas within the country that hold the biggest pool of women’s rugby talent is within the rural and lower-economic areas. These women come from difficult circumstances, and therefore have not been afforded the sporting opportunities that many others in the country have had access to.

The time is NOW to provide an opportunity for those who most need and deserve it. An opportunity that will transform the female sporting landscape of the country – the Gauteng Women’s Rugby Institute. The first of its kind in South Africa; a women-specific high-performance rugby institute that will only produce sport excellence, but focus on the holistic development of our women, through an on-site NATIONAL academic qualification, life- and mental skills.
“Rugby does not belong to anybody; it belongs to everybody.” In South-Africa there is an urgent need to accelerate the empowerment of girls and women in sport. Unfortunately, gender inequality is still a reality within the sport in South Africa. The gender gap within rugby, between men and women, is one of the greatest. The Gauteng Women’s Rugby Institute with the correct partnerships will assist in providing a significant and national pathway for women’s rugby in South Africa, specifically catering for the gap from 18 until 24.
YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
